Reaching to the current HIV gains has only been possible as a result of funding and resources provided through international solidarity. In resourcing the struggle against HIV, lessons were learnt about how to address the generalized and concentrated epidemics. International solidarity has been key to move countries from one milestone to another. The world is much closer yet quite far in ending the current epidemic, with availability of resources being the constant. In thinking about the future of the epidemic several areas where resources can be tapped need clear addressing. On this KP-TNC works at a regional level and build the capacities of KP consortia to:
- Advocate for more commitments towards GFATM replenishments from all countries
- Calling for a bi-partisan agreement in the US to ensure that there are five years reauthorizations of PEPFAR
- Advocating for more commitments in African Countries towards increasing domestic resource mobilization for HIV
- Advocating that more resources are made available to address vulnerability to HIV faced by the most at risk populations
There are currently a number of efforts in the countries to sustain HIV gains which would need the participation of the KP communities. These efforts include: the development of sustainability roadmaps, participation in priority conversations about HIV resourcing, development of frameworks for HIV integration in the health sector, community systems strengthening and social contracting, and the development of all envisaged instruments for prioritizing sustenance of the currently achieved HIV gains.
